Why Don’t We Go Somewhere was inspired by a grove of spotted gums on our property and came from experiencing how comforting nature can be when life is difficult.
I painted this work during a time when people I love were suffering and I felt helpless to change what they were going through. I found myself wandering out amongst the trees, sitting beneath them and simply breathing.
Their strength, beauty and stillness became a source of comfort — a reminder of nature’s quiet ability to restore us.
This painting holds something of that experience for me, while leaving space for the viewer to bring their own memories and sense of place to the work.
